"People
once believed that when someone died a crow carried their soul to the land
of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible saddness
is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes,
the crow can bring that soul back to make the wrong things right."
The flashback scene required Funboy's gun to be loaded, cocked and then pointed at the camera. Because of the close-range of the shot, the bullets loaded had real brass caps, but no powder. After the cut, the propsmaster ( not the armsmaster - he had left the set for the day ) dry-fired the gun to get the cock off, knocking an empty cartridge into the barrel of the gun. The gun was loaded with blanks ( which usually contain the double or triple the powder of a normal bullet to make a loud noise ). Brandon entered the set carrying a bag of groceries containing an explosive blood pack. As Brandon entered the room, Michael Massee (Funboy) was supposed to shot Brandon (Eric Draven), triggering the blood pack. Instead, the cartridge that was stuck in the barrel was blasted at Brandon through the bag he was carrying, killing him. The footage of the scene was destroyed without being developed.
This tragical accident made a jewel out of the movie created from the comics. Because the hero not only dies on screen, but also in real life (Brandon left behind him his girlfriend), we can't help thinking about James O'Barr whose girlfriend was also killed by a drunk driver. All these stories (James, Brandon, Eric) of physically but not mentally broken love eventually give us an ultimate advice about how we should live our lives and enjoy ourselves while we still can. Because everything could happen between now and tomorrow, we must always remember these tragical events, to appreciate each moment of joy and happiness to its highest value. |
